I fell in love with the rural landscapes at a young age, sitting in the back seat of our family car. I never grew tired of the rolling hills and beautiful trees that passed by my window. When painting in my studio or En Plein Air with fellow artists, the colours I see with the changing seasons can be mixed on my palette of buttery oils!
The idea of ruffles and lace must have come from the observation of flowers. The play of light on their petals and leaves as they dance in the wind, beg to be painted in the medium of oils. Whether it’s one intimate portrait or an entire garden, I must paint their beauty!
How many times have you walked by an old home that stirs your imagination? If you’re like me, you want to move in and take joy from tending their gardens or put lace in the windows. I’m in love with old homes and barns. They have long ago settled into the landscape that frames them.
Being a retired commercial artist I have illustrated a wide variety of subject matter over my career. So it’s no surprise that occasionally I will wander back down that path to paint an image that has captured my eye because of its design.
